Abstract

The article presents a functional-semantic analysis of the lexeme “element” in Marina Tsvetaeva’s works. By examining approximately 250 instances of the lexeme “element” taken from her prose and poetic texts, the typology of the key meanings of this lexeme and their functional features characteristic of the poet’s individual worldview are presented. Four common language and five occasional meanings of the lexeme “element” are identified. The work emphasises the uniqueness and depth of the symbolism of the element in Tsvetaeva’s individual-author worldview, which makes her poetic heritage particularly significant and multifaceted. Tsvetaeva, asserting her independence from culture and emphasising the primacy of elemental forces, uses the lexeme “element” to metaphorise various phenomena, including explaining the nature of the creative process. In her poetry, language returns to its roots, to the magical unity of thought and event, expressed through a deep connection with natural elements. Tsvetaeva sees herself and her poetic process as part of these elemental forces.
